Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2022 kicked off in grand style at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium yesterday (6), as defending champions Jaffna Kings beat Galle Gladiators by 24 runs.
Dunith Wellalage bagged the Man of the Match award for his 20-ball 30 and one for 14 with the ball which helped Jaffna Kings secure their first win.
The Kings posted a below-par 137 with Wellalage and Shoaib Malik scoring 30 runs a piece. In response, Kusal Mendis scored a half-century but failed to find sufficient support from his fellow batters.
