Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Blues beat SLC Greys by four wickets in the SLC Invitational T20 League 2022 played at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday (10).
Greys’ Skipper Ashan Priyanjan won the toss and elected to bat first. Ashan Randika was the first to fall, with Dhananjaya De Silva cleaning him up for just three runs.
In came Sangeeth Cooray and together with Thanuka Dabare, the pair added a 51-run partnership for the second wicket. Unfortunately, both batters fell in a space of two overs which hampered the progress of the Greys. The rest of the batters struggled to get on with it, and they were finally restricted to 115/9 in the allotted 20 overs.
Dabare top-scored with 33, while Praveen Jayawickrama bagged three wickets for the Blues.
Chasing a modest total of 116, the Blues started off with an early setback with the fall of Sadeera Samarawickrama. But Skipper Charith Asalanka and Ashen Bandara steadied the ship. Asalanka scored a quick-fire 29 while Bandara remained unbeaten on 27 to see off the run chase in the 19th over. Milan Rathnayake impressed with the ball for Greys with a three for 20.
This is the second win for the Blues who regained the top spot while Greys bid farewell to their chances of reaching the finals, after their second straight defeat.
