ECONOMYNEXT – Former Sri Lanka parliamentarian and murder convict Duminda Silva was hospitalised on Wednesday (01,) a day after the Supreme Court ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to arrest him, sources said.
“Silva has been admitted to the Sri Jayewardenepura hospital,” sources told EconomyNext.
However, the reason for admission or the health condition of Silva is not yet known.
On Tuesday (31), the Supreme Court has ordered the CID to arrest Silva, nullifying a presidential pardon granted to him a year ago.
It was reported that a travel ban was also imposed on Silva while the Attorney General has been directed to assist the CID in his arrest.
He and two others were sentenced to death over the murder of former MP Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra in 2011.
Silva, who was serving a death sentence over the murder charges, was released from prison on a “special presidential pardon” in June 2021 along with 93 prisoners including 16 ex-Tamil Tiger combatants. (Colombo/ June 01/2022)
