ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka has called for an end to the military conflict in Ukraine started by Russian strongman Vladimir Putin’s invasion of the smaller neighbor.
“The Government of Sri Lanka is deeply concerned about the recent escalation of violence in Ukraine,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
“Sri Lanka calls upon all parties concerned to exercise maximum restraint and work towards the immediate cessation of hostilities, in order to maintain peace, security and stability in the region.
“Sri Lanka emphasizes the need for concerted efforts by all parties concerned to resolve the crisis through diplomacy and sincere dialogue.”
Several Sri Lankan students are in Ukraine and the country has long-standing relations with Russia.
Both countries are top markets for tea and are also sources of tourists. (Colombo/Feb25/2022)
